The Personal Protective Equipment at work Regulations 1992 state that where a risk assessment identifies the need for safety footwear to protect against crush or penetration injuries or contact with corrosive or irritant chemicals, this should be provided by the employer free of charge.
If employees are working in an environment where there is a risk of injury caused by crushing due to heavy falling objects, then their safety footwear will require a steel toecap.
If there is a risk of foot penetration due to standing or walking on sharp objects, the safety footwear must contain a steel midsole, as this will provide adequate protection against penetration.
We sell the following protective footwear in our online shop:
Safety Boot or Shoe or Rigger Boot – This is the most common type of safety footwear. All come with a fitted steel toecap and some makes also have a protected mid sole. Safety Boots / Shoes / Rigger Boots are generally used by construction workers, bricklayers and demolition workers.
Wellington Boots – We sell PVC Wellington boots to protect against water and corrosive materials. Our Wellington boots also contain a steel toe cap and mid sole, and are therefore suitable for site use.
Safety Trainers – These provide the user with softer more flexible safety footwear that is fitted with protective toecap and anti-slip soles. They are suitable for use on construction sites but are not as resistant to penetration as the safety boot.
